Legislation has been introduced in both the House and Senate that would increase the shopping cap on electric competition in Michigan – from 10% of the utility's total electricity demand to 25%. This proposed increase would allow a larger number of businesses to shop for an electricity supplier and have access to more competitive rates.
In the Detroit Edison service territory, a waiting list was put in place to allow businesses to secure a "place in line" while a decision on the shopping increase is pending. A decision is expected to be made by early 2011. If the shopping cap is increased, a limited number of businesses will be permitted to shop, and businesses on the waiting list will be the first eligible to participate.
Even if you're currently with an alternative supplier, contact FirstEnergy Solutions now for a savings analysis so you won't be scrambling for pricing when your contract ends, or risk losing your spot in the program by falling back to the utility.
