What is green power?

Green power is electricity that is generated from renewable resources, such as wind, water, sunlight, and biomass. Nature provides these fuels, and manpower creates the devices, such as dams and wind farms, to capture and convert these fuels into energy. The energy made is termed "clean" because the process to create it does not release air pollutants or greenhouse gases into the environment.

Individuals and corporations voluntarily choose to purchase green power generation from local utilities or competitive suppliers. The amount and type of renewable energy offered in a green product differs from supplier to supplier; some products are 100% green energy, while others are a mix of green energy and traditional fuels.
